An Elk Grove youth has received the Eagle award, the highest rank in Boy Scouting.

Devin Holmes, 18, is a member of varsity team 294.

To earn the Eagle award, a scout must earn 21 merit badges and complete a community or church-related service project. Holmes designed and built special furniture for a library used by orthopedically handicapped children.

As a Scout, Holmes has embarked on many short term camping trips, including a 68 mile backpack trek in 1984 and a 300 mile bicycle trip this year.

A 1985 graduate of Elk Grove High Scool, Holmes is a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Elk Grove, where he is a leader of several youth organization.

Holmes also has earned the "On My Honor" and "Duty to God" reeligious scouting awards.

Holmes is a freshman at Cosumnes River College, where he majors in accounting.  He works at Gibson Winery in Elk Grove.

Holmes is the son of Dan and Carol Holmes of Elk Grove
